Summary of key insights and outcomes.
As an experienced producer responsibility organisation, Febelauto oversees the safe collection, processing, recycling and resale of EV batteries.

To guarantee EV battery traceability and efficient flow management, Febelauto took a pioneering role by developing a digital EV battery management platform, proactively preparing for the EU battery passport requirements coming into force from 2027. The Febelauto portal welcomes different stakeholders to participate in the circular lifecycle of the EV batteries. From garages registering returned EV batteries, to storers and transporters overseeing their handling, all the way to second-life battery buyers and approved recyclers.

All registered Belgian garages and dealers can submit obsolete or damaged car batteries, either through a guided form or via an Excel upload for high-volume submissions. Each organization has visibility only into its own batteries throughout the full lifecycle and receives a recycling or second-life certificate once the battery reaches its final destination.
Battery data is shared via Excel or API with the parties selected in the workflow, and a unique identifier is created for each battery and embedded in a QR code. With a single click, a full report is generated showing all registered batteries per year, their attributes, locations, and status.
